Build Log: Cherry Blossom Fort

One of the first few builds I posted on my blog was a Japanese Fortress. I always liked the concept, and finally made time to revisit it… and it made it even bigger than before!

How did that come from a pile of bricks, you ask?

Well, it started with a rough star fort design with light grey plates.

As you can see, I had already thought of using a touch of lavender. I also tried something new (for me) with lime green under the water.

I raised my layout by about four bricks, so that I had some room to play around with rocks and other terrain around the edges of the fort points.

For the most part, I only built what would be seen from the two front sides. My light grey collection is small and I didn’t want to run out!

I experimented with white for the fort blockhouse, but suddenly decided to ditch that in favor of brown windows. No particular reason, I just randomly wanted to use my brown windows.

Something struck me funny about having the windows behind crenellations like that. After browsing some Japanese castles, I decided to build the pagoda-style building right on top of the central stone square.

This of course made the whole creation a lot larger, and the end size was very satisfying!

I never thought I would run out of new style pink flowers… but after this tree and the other little one, I certainly did! In fact, I think I may need to get more pink flowers, this kind of tree is so beautiful.

Some of my work around back got lost, but at least you can see a little of it in this high angle.

For even more on the build process, I put together a time lapse video.

  1. Love your build logs! What I appreciate is that you showcase that not everything works at first. It is helpful to other builders to see that “nah this isn’t working” or “change direction” is common 🙂

    1. Thank you! I like to show that, because it makes me feel like the first attempt isn’t an utter waste… people still get to see it. 😉 In fact, I find that I’ve started rebuilding/changing direction a lot more as my builds get better. It really helps to be willing to take a second try!
