Eslandola Hall

Have a bit of time on your hands?  Try Eslandola Hall, a regally columned gallery perfect for a friendly discussion, a leisurely date, artistic meditation, or, if you’re an eccentric Sea Captain, for a good-humored clash or two.

The visible areas of this creation span about 48×30 studs, so it’s larger than it appears!  Piecing together enough bricks for the columns and arches was not an easy chore, and several possibilities had to be rejected because there weren’t enough of the same piece available.   In the end, the arches are built with a gold trim, which after all achieved the look I was going for quite well!

For the curtains, I ran into the same problem: trying to find a technique that I could repeat often – in this case, six times.  Fortunately, I have lots of those curves, and attaching them with a pair of clips was a breeze!

One of the last elements of this build that I worked on was the candlestick.  I started to despair after a while of ever being able to build three exact copies, but then I discovered my skeleton legs.  Hanging on the wall here is a long tapestry… it didn’t quite turn out as I had envisioned (it would have been nice to get a knight on a rearing horse… you know…) but I think the point comes across.

In the wall niches are quite a few statues – here’s one of an Egyptian Pharaoh.

This is the latest of quite a few all-LEGO scenes that I’ve been doing recently.  These kind of constructions have a definite benefit in being immersive, but on the downside, it’s easy to miss the real size of a scene like this.  In the end, however, the hall achieved the elegant and rich look I was going for, and I hope you enjoyed looking at it as much as I did building it!
