Soar through space in style with this LEGO Ninjago Skybound inspired spaceship – the Swordfish!
This beast isn’t just a spaceship, it’s a spaceSHIP – Seriously Huge Investment in Parts! At over 100 studs long, it took me just under two weeks to build. You can follow the construction process here.
After having the idea of doing a Skybound style ship a full year ago, I finally got around to it in September (also known as SHIPtember to LEGO enthusiasts). I wanted to base it off a real-life shape, and I settled on a swordfish, since that’s a nice long, slim shape that works well for a spaceship.
I wanted to get in as many details as possible – some of my favorites are featured below; the thrusters at the back, the fin on top, and the six-stud shooters on each side!
Getting the cockpit to fit smoothly in with the rest of the SHIP was no piece of cake, especially since I wanted to be sure it would open enough to get the minifigure out!
On top of the SHIP is a detachable rowboat, armed with a single-stud shooter on the back! The SHIP is also equipped with a jail cell for those pesky ninja and with four cannons that can be lowered for maximum range.
There are three small, maneuverable craft to supplement the SHIP. Most important, of course, is the detachable rowboat; but there’s a couple of scouting vehicles in the hangar area as well.
Last but definitely not least, this SHIP is sturdy! Watch the video below for a closer look at some of the functions and for the obligatory swoosh!
