Pilgrim-in-Progress

Not sure I’ve done a work-in-progress post before, but there’s a first time for everything. And there could be no better first time than this, the biggest in-person collaboration I’ve ever organized. (If any of my siblings tell you they’re organizing it… they’re wrong.)

The collaboration started with an ambition to bring something eye catching to BrickWorld Chicago 2023. Beyond being eye catching, we also wanted our collaboration to be meaningful. So what better than the classic story of the Christian life, Pilgrim’s Progress? I’ll tell you what would be better… Pilgrim’s Progress, but at 3x minifigure scale!

Today we’re a little over two weeks out from BrickWorld and building furiously. I need a break, so I figured a WIP post makes for a good excuse.

First up, the hill where Christian meets the cross and loses his burden is at least recognizable at this point. Since this picture, the road has been finished and progress has been made on the rockwork that will go around the edges.

I’ve also just about finished the valley of the shadow of death, below. Just waiting for a parts order with more black 1×1 bricks for those spikes!

The city of destruction is represented by a massive door. I think my brother’s ambitions are to build two houses. Not sure I have that much faith in him (or in my collection) but it’s coming along!

So far, the wicket gate is only a sign–but it’s a beauty!

The backbone of our collaboration is this large-scale Christian figure. He’ll feature in nearly every one of these scenes in a variety of poses and clothes.

Besides these builds, vanity fair and the celestial city are in various stages of less presentable construction. Plenty to keep us busy until show time!

Come see Pilgrim’s Progress in person at BrickWorld Chicago June 18-19 or (likely) The Ultimate Brick Show (Marion, IL, August 12). A special thanks to those who have helped us out with this collaboration via our gofundme!

      1. Well, we displayed at Brickworld and had the time of our lives, and since then, we’ve carted it all around the US in the back of our van in preparation for showing it at the Ultimate Brick Show in Marion, IL this Saturday (12th). Most of us have been dragging our feet on taking proper photographs (these models are huge!) but Josiah has already posted his:
The City of Destruction: Purity's Death
I’ll definitely be doing a post here once everything has been photographed and uploaded, so keep an eye out for that sometime in the next couple months!
